Who let the Dogs in?

In the second rendition of a new tradition that you can't help but enjoy, Georgia Bulldogs Coach Mark Richt stripped down his football squad today and had them jump in the school pool. Frolicking ensued. The Bulldogs blew off their morning practice and instead headed to the high dives at the Ramsey Center pool for the second year in a row. They players took turns jumping, cannonballing, flopping and flipping from anywhere between the baby board at 3 feet to the high dive at 33 feet.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was there to document every shirtless minute with a nine-photo gallery.

Porn-posing wrestlers booted
Paul Donahoe and Kenny Jordan, two top wrestlers at the University of Nebraska, were kicked off the team on Tuesday just days after their nude photos from Fratmentv.com began circulating across the web. The school said the duo, known as Nash and Cal, were declared ineligible.“The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat,” coach Mark Manning said in a statement. “We have outstanding student-athletes in our program and we will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals.”

G-Braves go with whistlepig
The Gwinnett Braves, preparing to open the 2009 season in a new $45-million stadium, now has a mascot. It's a whistlepig, otherwise known as a woodchuck, looking quite goofy with this glove, hat and jersey. Like Daffy and other Disney characters, the whistlepig isn't wearing anything below the belt. Yup, just furry nakedness.
More after the jump.

Hotlanta Softball closes out season
The event, held in the upscale Ten Pin Alley in Atlantic Station, featured bowling, pizza, the debut of the league's new t-shirt for the Series and a cheer led by outgoing HSL Commissioner Emerson Ross that, well, can't quite be done justice with only words. You have to see it performed live for the full experience.
Nearly a dozen HSL teams will compete for titles during the Series, which opens Aug. 22. Among those teams are two -- the Venom from the Open Division and the Riptide from the Women's Division -- returning to the Series to defend the titles they won in 2007.

ESPN’s morning fix for sports junkies
If you can't get enough of sports, jocks and punditry about them, ESPN has just the thing. The all-sports network this morning launched a six-hour daytime version of "SportsCenter," anchored by former Atlantan Hannah Storm and Josh Elliott (photo). I've always wondered why, in this age of 24/7 media outlets that ESPN always ran "SportsCenter" repeats the next morning.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution offers a Q&A with Storm, while Deadspin is live-blogging the premiere.

Who’s got the best Olympic abs?
Thanks to some enterprising web editor at NBC, the network's Olympic web site includes a fun feature called "Ab fab: Guess the swimmer."It's a collection of eight of the hot swimmers at the Beijing Games -- including Andrew Lauterstein, Ryan Lochte and Michael Phelps -- first in a photo showing just their torso and then shifting to a full shot. Play along and see if you can guess which abs belong to which swimmer.
Hat tip to Outsports, which has set up a blog covering the Games.
