Jim Parsons, gay Air Force cadets, Colin Powell
“The Big Bang Theory” Emmy winner officially comes out, Powell echoes Obama on gay marriage, Air Force Academy’s first openly gay graduates, homoerotic sports camp pushes celibacy for gays, Ziegfried’s Roy in sexual assault suit, and more LGBT headlines.
• Colin Powell endorses gay marriage. Bush’s Secretary of State went further, saying that he questions Mitt Romney and that, as Joint Chiefs of Staff chair under Clinton, he considered “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” better than the outright ban on gay soldiers that existed before it. As a private citizen, he later backed DADT’s repeal.
• Obama campaign makes inspiring case for LGBT votes. In a moving video narrated by “Glee’s” Jane Lynch, the president lays out his commitment to gay equality and his track record for advancing LGBT rights.
• Jim Parsons says the words: I’m gay. Thought he was already out? Yeah. LGBT news junkies already knew that about “The Big Bang Theory’s” Emmy winner (second photo), because we pay attention when you have a partner for 10 years. Parsons spells it out to the New York Times for those who weren’t paying attention.
• Gay man says Oregon psychiatrist told him he’s not gay. Max Hirsch filed a complaint with the APA when the psychiatrist, whose name is being blotted out of public record, focused on Hirsch’s sexual orientation rather than treat his depression.
• First openly gay cadets graduate from Air Force Academy. At least four members of the class of 2012 (third photo) are gay, the first graduates who can say so openly since the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”
• Catholic sports camp for resisting same-sex attraction. The misnamed group Courage encourages gay men to be celibate and the camp will put the men together for rough-and-tumble football, basketball and baseball while encouraging them not to boink each other.
• Three employees shop video of Ziegried & Roy’s Roy Horn groping them. A video of the tiger-mauled half of the duo (bottom photo) groping male physical therapists, grabbing their genitals and squeezing their nipples accompanies a lawsuit by the men, who say they are straight and married. TMZ didn’t buy the video but describes it in gory detail.
• Family Research Council hater blasts Target’s Pride shirts. Of course he does. One-note FRC leader Tony Perkins, who was quite happy when Target made anti-gay donations, now tells doe-eyed followers to e-mail Target with their disapproval. You can {encode=[email protected]” title=“e-mail Target”}, too.
