You know Anderson Cooper is gay, right? Really. The CNN anchor and former part-time Atlantan is also a favorite topic of mine on Project Q, so I gayly jumped at the chance to talk about his coming out when 11Alive called on Monday.

11Alive delves into gay issues with regularity, sometimes even finding smart gay people to discuss same-sex marriage. They’ve hosted a wedding contest won by the gays and let gay Atlanta restaurateur Frank Bragg tap his inner Rachael Ray on air. They even make Karen Handel, already one of Georgia’s wingnut conservatives, even testier.

So I headed over to 11Alive’s studios in Midtown, noting the irony that they sit across the street from one of the gayest complexes in Atlanta, Monroe Place Apartments. I met up with co-anchor Melissa Long and we did our Q&A thing for a segment on “My 11Alive News at 10,” which airs on MyATL TV. I came in second – OK more precisely, Cooper’s coming out placed second—on “The Rundown,” just behind the weather. At least this time I didn’t have to debate some old guy.
