If you’re going to raise cash for your non-profit that provides low-income housing, why not turn to Atlanta’s toniest neighborhood for a little help? Jerusalem House did just that on Thursday.
It’s not the first time the organization, which provides housing for people impacted by HIV, headed to Buckhead for a fundraiser. But it was by far its biggest flirtation with grandeur, as the Stars Party & Silent Auction took place inside a Tuxedo Park mansion that’s on the selling block for $12.5 million.
Spread across the home’s three floors were scores of tables packed with silent auction items, bars passing out cocktails and eateries – including gay-owned Radial Café – dishing out tasty hors d’oeuvres. Guests noshed on the treats on a patio overlooking a nearly 70-foot long infinity edge pool and the rear of the 1.45-acre estate.
The event also included a real queen – Georgia’s own Miss United States 2010 Jessica Black. The congenial beauty also was among special guests at the 8th Annual Toy Party & Silent Auction in December.
Organizers were still tearing down the event on Friday – careful, those are polished nickel faucets and heated marble floors – so a final tally on how much was raised for Jerusalem House and how many people attend wasn’t yet available.
