When we can mix jewelry shopping, chocolate tasting, cocktails and music all in one event, there’s no stopping us. Toss in lesbian radio jock Melissa Carter and, well, now it’s really turning into a thing.
That was May 12 when the popular Carter, co-host of “The Bert Show” on Q100, spent some time at Worthmore Jewelers in Midtown as part of an event benefiting the Melissa Carter Transplant Fund. Piedmont Hospital created the fund in Carter’s name three years ago to honor her life-saving kidney transplant there, which she went through publicly in 2002.
Last week’s event invited guests to cruise, touch and try on some shiny items from the display cases at Worthmore Jewelers; taste the treats of Taria Camarino, a lesbian and executive pastry chef at Highland Bakery; enjoy music and then head to Bellissima for cocktails during an afterparty.
Carter regularly appears on behalf of LGBT rights and causes—including the Atlanta Human Rights Campaign Gala Dinner earlier this month—but clearly this one is personal. Money raised at the diamond and bon-bon filled benefit is distributed directly to transplant candidates and transplant nurses at Piedmont Hospital.
