Amy Ray to headline Atlanta Pride’s Sunday
In its roll-out of entertainers for October’s festival, Atlanta Pride announced Tuesday that Amy Ray, half of Decatur’s own Indigo Girls, will lead Pride’s stage lineup on Sunday, Oct. 14.
“We are thrilled to announce Amy Ray as our Sunday headliner,” Glen Paul Freedman, chair of the Pride board, says in a prepared statement. “The 2012 line-up is shaping up to be a great one and with the addition of Amy Ray, our Festival goers are sure to be entertained.”
So Pride 2012 is turning out to be a festival led by great gay and lesbian voices made famous in duos that created names for themselves as solo acts. The Pride Committee announced last week that Andy Bell of Erasure headlines Saturday’s music lineup with help from Project Q and David magazine.
After some local acoustic shows in January, Ray’s “Lung of Love” released in February. At the time, Ray told us that she writes songs and then decides if it’s more of an Indigo Girls track or something she wants to rock with her own band in a more rowdy style.
“As I write, I think, ‘Oh yeah, that’s an Indigo Girls song.’ It’s more of who I hear performing it,” Ray said. “I sometimes will switch to my electric guitar for solo songs as opposed to my acoustic guitar for Indigo Girls songs.”

The Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) announced today that Amy Ray will headline Sunday’s line-up at the 2012 Atlanta Pride Festival.
Sunday’s Coca-Cola stage will feature the performance of the one-of-a-kind entertainer, Amy Ray. Fans will be treated to one of music’s most recognizable voices when she and her band bring to a close the musical entertainment portion of the festival.
The singer-songwriter and indie-label founder is best known as one-half of the Grammy-winning contemporary folk duo, the Indigo Girls. Ray has released four solo albums that have been met with critical acclaim. Fans familiar with her only as part of the Indigo Girls will be surprised to learn that Ray’s solo act is loud and raucous by comparison. Her sultry voice and stomping guitar licks are sure to entertain new, old, duo and solo fans alike.
Atlanta Pride Board Chair, Glen Paul Freedman stated, “We are thrilled to announce Amy Ray as our Sunday headliner!” Freedman continued, “The 2012 line-up is shaping up to be a great one and with the addition of Amy Ray, our Festival goers are sure to be entertained.”
Immediately following Ray’s performance will be the Festival favorite, the Cabaret Show. Thecomplete 2012 entertainment line-up is scheduled to be released in September.
