AV200 pedals to record amount for HIV [photos]
More than 200 riders helped push the 10th anniversary of the AIDS Vaccine 200 past its record-setting fundraising as the ride unfolded over the weekend.
So much for last year’s $223,479 raised during the two-day, 200-mile trek to north Georgia and back. When riders returned to the Emory campus on Sunday, their total reached more than $270,000. That pushes the total raised by event organizers Action Cycling Atlanta to nearly $1.3 million since its inception in 2003.
The Emory Vaccine Center is the chief beneficiary of the ride. The facility researches vaccines for HIV and other infectious diseases.
