With two skills sessions – and rugby stud Ben Cohen—behind them, the Atlanta Bucks Rugby Football Club opened its brief home schedule this month while getting ready for the return of its tournament during Pride.
The Bucks dropped their first Atlanta-area match to a squad from Georgia Tech on Sept. 17 (photos). Now the gay rugby team looks ahead to Ruck-A-Buck on Oct. 8, a return for the Pride event that was last played in 2009. A day later, the squad will join the Pride parade. After mocking Megadaddy Bishop Eddie Long in last year’s event, it’s anyone’s guess what the Bucks might do with their parade entry this time around.
The team’s fall schedule is brief – five games and two tournaments. But the Bucks have kept a full calendar this year as they continue tuning up for the Bingham Cup next summer. They hosted Fall Rugby 101 in August, Summer Rugby 101 in July and two other skills sessions earlier in the year. There was also that week-long love affair in May with retired British rugger Ben Cohen, who announced that his anti-bullying organization will anchor its operations in Atlanta.
