Donors hit Backpack out of the park [photos]

Sunshine, carnival games and a summer camp theme brought Atlanta’s gays to Piedmont Park again this year to have some fun and collect school supplies for Georgia children during the annual Backpack in the Park.
The gay-led For the Kid in All of Us, which also brings us the Toy Party each December, only charges one kid-sized backpack filled with supplies for the coming school year for admission. In return, it delivered Twister, a prize-filled balloon wall, camp-themed activities, entertainment, crafts and summer cocktails and munchies. Hundreds took advantage of the fun and the opportunity to help.
DJ Vicki Powell put the festivities to a beat on Saturday in the park’s air conditioned Greystone Pavillion. The fun continued at an afterparty at Joe’s on Juniper. Even though the party is past, the tally of backpacks collected this year is still growing. You can still donate a ready-made backpack online to contribute to this year’s final donation.
