Former WNBA player indicted for attack on ex

Retired lesbian basketball star Chamique Holdsclaw now faces six criminal charges for her alleged role in chasing down her ex on the streets of Atlanta, smashing the SUV’s windows, pouring gas inside and firing a shot.
Holdsclaw (photo)—who won three college championships, a gold medal in the Olympics and played 12 years in the WNBA, including one with the Atlanta Dream—was arrested in November in connection with the attack on current WNBA player Jennifer Lacy after an incident that started at a church on Ponce de Leon Avenue.
On Wednesday, a grand jury returned a six-count indictment against Holdsclaw, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
A Fulton County Grand Jury has returned a six count indictment against 35-year-old Chamique Holdsclaw in connection with an attack on a former friend. Holdsclaw is charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault, Criminal Damage in the First Degree, two counts of Criminal Damage in the Second Degree and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
The charges stem from an incident on November 13, 2012. As victim Jennifer Lacy drove along East Ponce De Leon Avenue, she noticed someone believed to be the defendant trailing her. She pulled over near a Hemphill Avenue business but before she could exit the vehicle, the defendant allegedly began to strike the victim’s car with a baseball bat- shattering several windows. A shot was then fired into the still occupied vehicle. The victim was not injured. Defendant Holdsclaw turned herself in to authorities later that day.
A trial date has not been scheduled.
Hours after the attack, Holdsclaw tweeted this:
Everything is a lesson learned. We all make decisions good and bad. As long as we grow from them that’s all that matters. #lessonlearned
