Got Leche? does Pride with diva double dose
How do you amp up a weekly party that already can include foam, “RuPaul’s” divas, pop singers and go-go boys? If it’s Atlanta’s gay Latin night Got Leche?, mix it up and go big with pop singer Sonia Madoc and queen Yara Sofia. How’s that for Pride?
So the popular event at Club Rush provides a double-dose of divas for its Pride blowout on Friday. Delivering queens that made their way through “RuPaul’s Drag Race” is nothing new for this party – hey there, Mariah Paris Balenciaga and Jessica Wild! – and neither is giving a mic to a pop singer like sexy Christian Chávez. But both together? Now that says Happy Pride!
“Pride to me is freedom in people being themselves and celebrating life and who they are,” the Spanish singer Madoc (photo) tells Project Q Atlanta.
Between her belting out anthem favorites including “Bienvenido a la fiesta ” (“Welcome to the party”) and “Yo quiero Bailar ” (“I want to dance”), Madoc says she’s excited to land in the city just in time for Atlanta Pride and join the crowd.
“They can expect to find a person fully committed and that embraces what gay Pride stands for,” she says. “In my performance I hope to transmit my joy in having the opportunity to take part in this event.”
For Sofia (bottom photo), she’s no stranger to Club Rush or Atlanta. The “RuPaul’s” Season 3 queen hit the club in March. And once she’s finished her Pride swing, fans can catch her as part of the cast of “RuPaul’s All Stars Drag Race” when the show premieres on Oct. 22.
Her last trip to Atlanta was quick – all of about seven hours – but she’ll make the most of it this time around. What to expect of her performance? Sofia sums it up with one word: “Everything.”
“I wish I could have more time in every city,” she adds.
As for what to expect from this Puerto Rican talent in the coming months, Sofia would only tease us.
“New stuff in the gay scene and out,” she says. “I can’t say anything, but it’s going to be amazing.”
