imageIf you stayed in Atlanta for the holiday weekend, it wasn’t just wishful thinking if you imagined a beach full of sand, swimsuits, palm trees and lifeguards on Cheshire Bridge Road. It was Heretic’s Beach Blast.

Yes, the bar hauled in 20 tons of sand, umbrellas, lifeguard stands and tiki paraphernalia to cap off its big gay Memorial Weekend with a beach blanket benefit for Joining Hearts on Sunday.

Those who didn’t head to Pensacola and opted instead for a stay-cation weren’t disappointed. Beach Blast patrons were treated to DJ Mike Pope, wading pools, hunks in trunks (top photo), water sports—no, not that kind—and all the plastic flamingo cocktail stirrers they could handle.

The crowd took the theme to heart and rang in summer in style—well, varying degrees of style. Think shorts, straw hats, sarongs and sunblock.

imageLocal nightlife personalities like Safonda Cox (bottom photo) donned their summer finest, and some even braved a dunking booth to raise coin for the cause. And what would a beach party be without a cookout? Yep, classic fixin’s were on the grill to put a little something on stomachs besides booze.

After a whole day of sun and sand, the party moved indoors for DJ Alex Cohen. In fact, that was the other theme all weekend at Heretic: Visiting spinmeisters at the turntables. DJ Mike Cruz brought the boys to the floor on Friday, and DJ Darin Arrowood kept the party pumping on Saturday.
