Jungle adds a Spark to your Saturday nightlife
When it’s not grooving to the latest and loudest beats from big-name DJs, Jungle likes to play games. Big gay ones. Flirt with the stars. Create your fantasies. Now it wants to add a spark to your weekend nightlife.
The gay club’s latest offering, Spark, opens on Saturday with the help of two nightlife veterans, drag personality Brent Star (photo) and DJ Christopher Kind. Expect a high-energy show with the likes of Star, Princess Charles, Lauren LaMasters and more; tunes; a dance party and well, the unexpected.
“It’s about you,” Star says. “One of our main goals is to make this night for everyone and for you to completely be yourself, have a great time and hopefully add a little spark in your nightlight scene.”
The pair teamed up about five years ago to launch Spark at the Masquerade. But add some seasoning, some experience and the benefit of hindsight and the two are ready to launch a recrafted Spark.
“We’ve both grown in our own respected fields and so has the crowd. We’re now at the Jungle which comes with better parking, bigger stage and more,” Star says.
Not that either performer minds the attention, but Kind says that with this Spark, you – the crowd—are the headliners.
“What separates Spark the most is we feel the crowd is the headline entertainment,” Kind says. “We just give them something to come together around. We want them to interact with each other not just come and watch the entertainment. We’ve always fostered an atmosphere to do just that.”
But really, another drag show for Atlanta’s gay nightlife scene? Star says the monthly event is much more than the latest addition to a crowded drag roster.
“There’s always room for more drag in Atlanta. But our night is only once a month and plus, well, let me just say expect the unexpected,” Star adds.
Spark premieres on Saturday. Doors open at 10 p.m. with the show at 11 p.m. and a dance party that follows. Cover is $5 before 12 a.m.; $10 after.
