Kyle Keyser brings Atlanta one last smile
Few personalities have impacted gay Atlanta on as many divergent fronts as Kyle Keyser. The former mayoral candidate, crime-fighter and alterna-DJ leaves town with one last blast. Well, OK two, with double-header party plans
We’ve followed the multi-faceted life of Keyser for years, from his run for Atlanta mayor (top photo) to taking mayor Kasim Reed to task, from pressuring Atlanta Pride, to helming Atlantans Together Against Crime rallies (second photo), and serving on the search committee for police chief.
Diversifying his public portfolio, Keyser didn’t stick to political and cultural issues. His newsmaking ability also includes a tongue-in-cheek humor (bottom photo) that led to being named a Person of the Year and painting the town gay with Margaret Cho.
But now it’s time to say goodbye as Keyser plans a move to Germany. On March 3, it’s the still-in-the-works Eurotrash Kyle Keyser Going Away Party. The farewell continues on March 4 with the return of DJ Vicki Powell’s Sunday Services at Sister Louisa’s Church bar: The dance party’s Whitney Houston/Kyle Keyser Goodbye Edition wishes Godspeed to both the unlikely local hero as well as the pop diva who Keyser recently helped memorialize.
