Less bigoted John Rocker OK with gay marriage

Hold on. When former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker decided not to be an anti-gay dick anymore, we didn’t expect him to go this far. He’s nearly backing same-sex marriage.

Next thing you know, the less-bigoted loudmouth will sport a Legalize Gay t-shirt and rap about tolerance.

But before he gets to that, the pitcher turned blogger, author and pundit best known for his anti-gay rants is now apologizing for the gay portions of his 1999 rant (video above) and – taking it a few steps further – saying it’s not his place to tell the gays they can’t marry.

It’s not a full-throated marriage endorsement and he won’t be buying gay marriage cards at Target anytime soon. But let’s not quibble. Here’s what he told Politico:

On gay marriage: “Am I someone that thinks that I have the right to sit back and judge someone that I don’t know, will never meet, on how they should live their life or what rights they can have to live their life the way they want to? I don’t think I deserve that responsibility.”

If there is such a thing as a likable wingnuts conservative, Rocker is becoming one. And since you’re being so tolerant of the gays these days, let’s pay it forward with a little gay fashion advice: Don’t ever wear that mesh shirt again.
