Manti Te’o hoax, gay ‘Archer,’ cop bashing

Big lie about Notre Dame star’s girlfriend could be a closet cover, “Archer’s” gay coworker’s spy-on-spy action, Brooklyn cops accused of gay bashing, Obama inaugural taps DADT soldier, MTV’s “Guy Code” goes gay, and more LGBT headlines.

Was Manti Te’o dead girlfriend hoax a gay coverup? Move over, dosing Lance Armstrong. Sports coverage and Twitter exploded with gay speculation when news broke that the heartwarming tale of Notre Dame’s Heisman runner-up (top photo) and a tragically lost girlfriend was a big fat lie. Gay undertones involving Te’o’s friend and former football player who managed the fake girlfriend’s Twitter account make us hope it’s not the closet driving the whole mess. Maybe he’s just incredibly gullible or mildly sociopathic.

French Elle: “Marriage for all.” As the marriage equality debate rages on in France with lawmakers heatedly debating the issue thus far without resolution, the standard-bearing fashion mag (second photo) puts in its two cents.

Louisiana gay men’s outing to see Barbra ends in assault. Four men in Lafayette, La., say a man at the same showing of “The Guilt Trip” with his kids began spewing gay slurs and profanities at them. He punched one of the men in the back of the head and left before police arrived. He was pursued and arrested for assault. His wife was charged with resisting arrest.

Brooklyn cops accused of disabling security cam before gay-bashing. A gay New York man says that he was savagely beaten and NYPD officers joined in. A lawsuit alleges that the attack was so calculated that the accused police officers went so far as to make sure there was no surveillance footage.

DADT soldier gets Obama inauguration role. David Hall (third photo), a gay man who has spent years fighting for full LGBT military equality through his role with OutServe-SLDN, was named one of eight National Citizen Co-Chairs by Obama’s inaugural committee. The committee is tasked with highlighting the president’s first-term accomplishments.

Fox uses “Mrs. Doubtfire” image to mock trans people. Fox Nation, a website for Fox News, used an image of Robin Williams in female drag to accompany a story decrying an effort to improve transgender healthcare.

“Archer” returns gayer than ever. The decidedly adult, uproariously ridiculous FX cartoon spy series comes back for its fourth season on Thursday. Look for the agency’s fully fleshed out gay character Ray, who may not be the only openly gay spy this year (bottom photo). The show’s creator hints at gay spy-on-spy action.

“Guy Code” does gay stuff. The comics and commentators on MTV2’s highest rated debut episode ever dig into how and why every man is at least a little bit gay in its second episode set for Jan. 22.
