Stuff some cute guys into some fashionable briefs, combine it with the HIV charity fundraising prowess of Mary Edith Pitts, and pour it all into a bar. That’s how you cook up a fun Saturday night.
As a sold-out Joining Hearts wound down a few blocks south in Piedmont Park, drag diva Mary Edith Pitts was emceeing the Frank Dandy Underwear Fashion Show and raising money for her two favorite charities—Jerusalem House and the Grady Infectious Disease Program.
More than a dozen guys – and even one girl – donned the Frank Dandy briefs from Brushstrokes for an appreciative crowd at Burkhart’s. The tips – often tossed at the models, sometimes stuffed into their underwear – went to the two non-profits, boosting Pitts’ fundraising total by another $700.
The event, in addition to showcasing the new line at the gay retail shop, was part of a weekend-long birthday bash for Pitts. She recently celebrated 20 years in drag and raised another $3,500 for charity at her birthday show on Sunday. In typical Pitts’ style, she offered a big thanks on her Facebook page.
Thanks for a wonderful, yet emotional night. $3,565 was raised towards my goal. Thank you to everyone who made tonight possible. More detailed thank you’s on the way. Night night
Saturday’s show included giveaways and a scooter that was donated by Brushstrokes and Prescription4Love; Sunday’s event included even more giveaways, a raffle, silent auction and scores of performers who donated their time and tips.
