Defense Secretary Panetta celebrates gay soldiers, author pretended to be gay for book, Falcon star Eric Rhodes dies, Illinois clerk defendant agrees with gay marriage plaintiffs, the gayest cartoon characters ever, gayer Google, and more LGBT headlines.
• Secretary of Defense salutes gays in the military. Reminding all of LGBT America that this administration saw the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” Leon Panetta (top photo) released a video on Friday morning for Pride month to thank gay and lesbian troops for their contributions.
• Straight author pretends to be gay for a year. Self-described “homophobic Christian” Timothy Kurek (second photo) started hanging out in the gayborhood, making new friends and even “came out” to his family to test his fears. His experiences are in the book “Jesus in Drag.”
• County clerk sued over gay marriage agrees with plaintiffs. Gay couples are suing Cook County Clerk David Orr for denying their marriage licenses. The defendant said in court that Illinois’ gay marriage ban is discriminatory, and his state defense attorney said plaintiffs are right: The law is unconstitutional and her office won’t defend it.
• Falcon gay porn star Erik Rhodes dead at 30. The popular adult film star (third photo) was found dead in his home Thursday of an apparent heart attack. Falcon’s announcement manages to porn up the company’s sadness over the loss: “He was a genuine and caring man with extraordinary attractiveness and a massive muscled frame.”
• Google over the rainbow with Pride. Certain terms typed into the search engine during June get a rainbow directly below the search field in honor of Pride month. Go ahead and type in “gay,” “lesbian,” “LGBT” and other related terms and see for yourself.

• Virginia gets its first openly gay judge. Tracy Thorne-Begland was appointed to the Richmond Circuit Court Thursday, a month after the Republican-led state House rejected him for a District judge post in a move he and his supporters saw as anti-gay.
