Critics of NPH Super Bowl ad cast Tim Tebow as martyr to gay agenda, cable giant adds Larry Kramer masterpiece starring Matt Bomer and Mark Ruffalo to Liberace bio, ABC Family star comes out, Barney Frank dials back opposition, and more LGBT headlines.

Neil Patrick Harris eyeblack Super Bowl ad gets anti-gay flack. The ad, which some say makes fun of Tim Tebow putting Bible verses in his eyeblack (top photo, bottom) features the gay “How I Met Your Mother Star” with the Super Bowl date under his eyes (top). Of course, Harris being an “outspoken homosexual” clearly shows that CBS is “pushing the gay agenda” and “mocking Christianity.”

“KyleXY” star Matt Dallas officially comes out as gay. All grown up (second photo), the former ABC Family actor announced his engagement to Los Angeles musician Blue James Hamilton via Twitter on Sunday, putting to rest longstanding rumors once and for all and becoming the first celebrity coming out of 2013.

Barney Frank backtracks Chuck Hagel opposition. After becoming the leading voice of gay disapproval of the former senator for defense secretary based on anti-gay comments back in 1998, retired House Democrat Frank says Hagel’s desire to scale back in Afghanistan is more important. Not coincidentally, the Republican’s nomination could be Frank’s first vote as interim senator if the outspoken gay pol gets that appointment. Curiously, Log Cabin Republicans are still against Hagel.

Anti-gay Massachusetts evangelist to ask judge for dismissal. Scott Lively, whose visit to Uganda advocating violence against gays helped push the country’s “Kill the gays” bill, is set to appear in court Monday to claim First Amendment rights in a suit filed by Center for Constitutional Rights for what it calls a decade-long campaign to persecute gays.

Hollywood rejected Liberace film as “too gay.” When the Michael Douglas-Matt Damon biopic “Behind the Candelabra” hits HBO later this year, it does so as a lower-rung choice for Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh, who says every major studio turned it down despite its star power.

Rapper calls Perez Hilton “messy faggot,” Twitter implodes. Gay blogger Hilton put his two cents in on bisexual Azealia Banks’ (bottom photo) “rhyme beef” on Twitter. Banks said “lol what a messy faggot you are,” and responses went Defcon 8. Banks replied that she meant what she said. Milquetoast GLAAD weighed in and even former Banks collaborator and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears had something to say about it.

Last-minute push for gay marriage in Illinois. A bill to convert civil unions to full marriage equality in the state couldn’t get a vote on the legislature’s lame duck schedule last week. If advocates don’t get it passed before the new legislature is sworn in on Wednesday, a new bill will have to start from scratch.

HBO greenlights “The Normal Heart” with Matt Bomer and Mark Ruffalo. It’s a hot pairing of the gay actor and the gay-friendly one as lovers in the film adaptation of Larry Kramer’s Pulitzer winning play-cum-Tony winning revival. More star power? Julia Roberts plays the doctor, and “Glee,” “New Normal” and “American Horror Story” creator Ryan Murphy directs.
