Out On Film teases 2013 fest with ‘I Am Divine’
No, you didn’t hit a fast forward button on some life-altering universal remote. It’s still March. But yes, LGBT film festival Out On Film is giving gay Atlanta a sneak peek at one of this fall’s feature films. Get ready for the most famous “cinematic terrorist” and most infamous drag queen ever in the bio-doc “I Am Divine.”
Out On Film returns to Landmark Midtown Art Cinema right on schedule on Oct. 3-10. After a record-breaking 25th anniversary festival last year, the festival comes out swinging with a look at “Divine.” Press play above.
“’I Am Divine’ has been a big hit at festivals so far and we are sure Atlanta audiences will love it,” says Jim Farmer, festival director of Out On Film. “Divine was a sensation, an outsider who became a drag superstar. There will never be anyone else like her.”
The movie debuted to great acclaim at SXSW 2013 before bowing again in London. Director Jeffrey Schwarz (“Vito”) takes an affectionate look at Glenn Milstead, aka Divine, who became a star in John Waters’ cult films such as “Pink Flamingos” and “Female Trouble” before finding mainstream success with “Hairspray.” The film features interviews from the likes of Waters, Ricki Lake, Mink Stole, Tab Hunter, Jackie Beat and more.
More Out On Film selections will be teased throughout the year, along with special events leading up to the main event of eight fabulous days of gay cinema. The submissions deadline for other films to be considered for the lineup is July 15. For more information, visit Out On Film.
