Atlanta Pride continues the slow leak of its biggest entertainers for the October festival with the announcement that up-and-coming British singer Rita Ora will take the stage on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Piedmont Park. Haven’t heard of her? You will.

Of course, some up-to-the-minute gay fans are already gathering behind Ora and her soulful, danceable, giant pipes even before she hits mainstream consciousness. The 21-year-old is making big waves in the U.K. as “the next big thing,” has toured with Coldplay, and her upcoming album is on Jay-Z’s Roc Nation label. With jazz, R&B, rock and classic twists, she cites Gwen Stefani and Beyonce as influences, and she’s working with heavy hitters like will.i.am, Drake and Kanye West on her upcoming album.

Before the album drops, Ora’s biggest splashes in the U.S. so far are this year’s “Hot Right Now” with DJ Fresh, and her own debut single “How We Do (Party)” (video above). You may have heard “How We Do,” which borrows its familiar refrain from The Notorious B.I.G.‘s “Party and Bullshit.” Press play on the video, then download the song to your playlist so you can sing along at Pride.

Ora adds to an Atlanta Pride entertainment lineup that already includes Erasure’s Andy Bell presented by David magazine and Project Q and Indigo Girls founder Amy Ray.

ATLANTA PRIDE ANNOUNCES RITA ORA APPEARANCE

Atlanta, Georgia – The Atlanta Pride Committee (APC) announced today that Rita Ora will perform at the 2012 Atlanta Pride Festival.

On the heels of recent announcements about the appearances of Andy Bell and Amy Ray during the event, the APC now reports, the addition of powerhouse vocalist, Rita Ora to the line up!  Ora’s performance, scheduled for Saturday, October 13th, has been made possible through the Atlanta Pride Committee’s relationship with radio partner, Wild 105.7 & 96.7.

The British sensation will take a break from her supporting slots on Coldplay and DJ Fresh tours to perform for Atlanta Pride on Saturday evening. Ora will bring her impressive vocals to the stage with a style and personality that is truly her own.  The buzzing performance is sure to include her US debut single, “How We Do (Party),” which is, according to her website, “An infectious pop-rock party anthem paired with her stunning vocals.”

APC Board Chair, Glen Paul Freedman said of the announcement, “We are so excited to add this amazing artist to our increasingly robust 2012 stage performances!  It is only through relationships like our partnership with Wild 105.7 & 96.7 that we are able to include an artist like Ora and still keep the festival free to everyone.”  Freedman continued, “We are confident that everyone will enjoy the line up we are putting together this year and hope to see Piedmont Park full of festival supporters having a great time!”

The entire 2012 line up is scheduled to be published in September.
