Work it, girl: RuPaul takes over Midtown
![]()
As if former Atlantan RuPaul isn’t already the hardest working queen of drag, she’s now got a larger than life presence as she hovers over southbound drivers on Piedmont Avenue near Cheshire Bridge Road.
What with a new book and the launch of the second season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” on Logo, she’s following her own advice from “Supermodel”: You better work, bitch.
But beyond her time working Atlanta clubs in the 1980s, RuPaul’s ties to Atlanta are bigger than the giant billboard looming over Midtown, which plugs her reality show. Two local drag queens—Nicole Paige Brooks and Sonique—are among the 12 competitors—oops, now it’s 11—on “Drag Race.” (Read our weekly recaps of the show.)
And the queen herself lands in Atlanta on Feb. 16 for what’s sure to be a packed appearance at Outwrite Bookstore & Coffeehouse. RuPaul will work the ATL to pitch her new book, “Workin’ It! RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style.”
