‘Cho Dependent’ confirmed for Out on Film
With an increasing fervor, Atlanta’s LGBT film festival continues to leak some of the marquis titles for its Sept. 29 to Oct. 6 event. On Tuesday, it’s the big announcement that Margaret Cho’s latest film is on the festival roster.
The stand-up set was shot in December right here in the ATL, where Cho films “Drop Dead Diva.” The movie includes riffs on living here while filming that show, her stint on “Dancing With the Stars,” and the “sexting” phenomenon. “Cho Dependent” screened at OutFest earlier this week, and it also features music from Cho’s Grammy-nominated album of the same name, including the ditty “Your Dick” performed live with the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus.
“Margaret Cho is a long-time icon in the LGBT community, someone who has always stood by us and supported us. She’s also one of the funniest people on the planet,” Jim Farmer, Out on Film festival director, says in a prepared statement. “Margaret spends a lot of her time in Atlanta these days and the concert was filmed here, so there is a wonderful symmetry about being able to debut it.”
“Cho Dependent” adds to a growing festival lineup that includes Christopher Hines’ documentary “Man 2 Man,” HIV early-years flick “We Were Here” and “Wish Me Away,” the documentary about country singer Chely Wright coming out; as well as acclaimed Israeli director Eytan Fox’s musical “Mary Lou.” The nonprofit festival is also celebrating a recent $2,500 grant to boost its efforts this year. The full schedule will be released in mid-August.
