Gay-straight alliances across Ga. to gather for summit
More than 100 students and advisors from gay-straight alliances across Georgia are expected on Saturday at a first-of-its-kind seminar that includes panel discussions with a mix of young and longtime activists.
The Georgia Safe Schools Coalition is sponsoring the Gay-Straight Alliance Summit, which is set for 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Gwinnett campus of the University of Georgia. The event offers two panel discussions that include Derrick Martin, the Georgia teen who made international headlines last year for taking his boyfriend to the prom, Georgia Equality Executive Director Jeff Graham, and Anneliese Singh (photo) of the schools coalition.
Singh says in a press release that she “hopes attendees will enjoy themselves, rejuvenate their activism, and dream big of what their own Georgia school would ‘look like’ free of homoprejudice and transprejudice, and other oppressions (e.g., racism, sexism, classism, ableism, adultism, etc.).”
