This is how Rep. John Lewis does the Pride parade shuffle
Civil rights icon and gay-rights booster U.S. Rep. John Lewis has a message for politicians seeking to impress during the Atlanta Pride parade: Hustle your ass.
The spry Congressman makes a point to attend the Pride VIP reception each year, along with other notable LGBT events including the HRC Dinner and AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run. But when it comes to the parade, he not only walks the walk, but the 71-year-old Lewis jogs for a large chunk of the parade route. It’s a crowd favorite and he did it again during this year’s parade.
It’s an approach not mimicked by other elected officials – at least the ones who show up for the parade – and one more reason why Lewis stands out with his approach to LGBT equality.
