Women’s league opens softball season

Women’s league opens softball season

imageWith a casual toss -- after a practice session and some informal instruction -- state Rep. Karla Drenner threw the ceremonial first pitch on Friday to open the third softball season for the Decatur Women's Sports League.

Several hours of softball commenced on two fields at Kelly C. Cofer Park in Tucker. The league continues play on Fridays for a season that stretches to late May. Drenner is the only openly gay member of the Georgia Legislature.

Women’s softball league opens play tonight

imageIf you're in Decatur tonight, be on the lookout for 300 lesbians carrying bats.

The Decatur Women's Sports League returns to Kelly C. Cofer Park in Tucker tonight for the start of their third season. State Rep. Karla Drenner, the only openly gay member of the Georgia Legislature, is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at 6:50 p.m. with nine games on two fields to follow The season continues on Friday nights into late May.

Gay jocks find home on the rink with GForce

imageYou'll forgive the GForce if they aren't dwelling on their loss to a bunch of straight guys earlier this year.

The gay hockey team, a collection of 15 players from cities across the country including Atlanta, lost a competitive match in January at the Friendship Cup, a part of the annual Aspen Gay Ski Week.

But now the team is in the middle of another battle, hoping to best 36 other gay sports clubs from across the country in a contest on Outsports.com. The site kicked off its Local Groups Challenge earlier this month and voting put GForce into the second round against Cheer San Francisco. (You can vote in the second round through Monday.)
